Here’s the “Least You Need to Know” for this weekend’s NYCRUNS Haunted Island 10K on Saturday, October 25 and 5K on Sunday, October 26:

Your Personal QR Code

Located in the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard, your personal QR code is what you’ll use on race day to pick up your bib and participant shirt. Add it to your Apple Wallet or take a screenshot so it’s accessible on race morning.

Getting to the Race

Take the Governors Island Ferry located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Manhattan. Please be on the 7:00 AM or 7:30 AM ferry and arrive 15 minutes early to get on line. There’s no charge for you, your family, or friends. The subway is your best option to get to the ferry. Use MTA Trip Planner for details. Parking is limited in the area.

The Festival Area is Centrally Located

When you arrive on the island, follow the signs and event staff directions to the Festival Area, which is the hub of race activity. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and participant shirt, check a bag, use the bathrooms, and get any questions answered.

First Things First, Get Your Bib

If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area using your QR code. If you’re also picking up a bib for another runner, you’ll need a screenshot of their QR code too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.

Get Your Shirt

Pick up your official participant shirt before or after the race in the Festival Area. Just show your personal QR code.

Checking a Bag?

If you want to drop gear off until after the race, head over to the Bag Check Area. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one.

Be in Your Start Corral by 8:45 AM

The Start Corrals are a short walk from the Festival Area and will be lined up by letter (AA – F). Your corral assignment will be noted on your bib and was determined by the pace you selected in the Profile section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard.

The Course

Check out the 5K course which makes one loop of the island with a fluid station featuring both water and Gatorade. Bathrooms will be located just beyond the Fluid Station. All NYCRUNS courses are USATF-certified.

Check out the 10K course which makes two loops of the island with multiple fluid stations featuring both water and Gatorade. Bathrooms will be located just beyond the Fluid Stations. All NYCRUNS courses are USATF-certified.

Dress For Success

Show off your Halloween spirit while running in costume and you might win some cool prizes. Check out all the details.

Don’t Get Trashed

Please help keep Governors Island clean and sustainable. NYCRUNS partners with the island’s composter Earth Matter NY to turn all cups and food from the race into compost. So, toss your trash, recycle your bottles, and place all race cups and food into the compost bins.

Post Race Refueling

We’ll be there after you finish with water, Gatorade, an apple, Brooklyn’s best bagel, and of course, some spooky sweet treats.

Photos

Following the race, you’ll receive an email with a link to your race photo gallery. If you did not pre-purchase a discounted photo package at checkout, you can still do so up to the day before the race by going to the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard and modifying your registration. For those who do not purchase a photo package, every NYCRUNS event includes a free photo which you can download after the race.

Track Your Run & Check Your Results

Real-time runner tracking and an interactive course map is available with the NYCRUNS Events App. Download the app now at the Apple App Store and Google Play. You’ll receive an email after the race once the preliminary results are posted on NYCRUNS.com.

Share Your Run On Social

Share your race day journey on social and tag @nycruns on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook #NYCRUNS #HauntedIsland #WinYourRace

Celebrate Your Finish

Stop by Taco Vista after the race and get $5 off buckets of beer and pitchers of margaritas. Enjoy tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and other delicious treats including great vegan options. Take in the epic views for the perfect post-race hang. Located at 125 Carder Road (just a short walk past the Manhattan ferry slip).

Carve Out Some Pumpkin Time

Continue your Halloween hang after the race at Pumpkin Point on Nolan Park Lawn (a short walk from the Festival Area) and cool down while picking out a free Halloween pumpkin of your dreams, or nightmares (while supplies last, limit one per person).
