Start Corral and Start Wave assignments are determined by your self-selected pace per mile. You can check your pace and make changes to it in the Profile section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard.
At every NYCRUNS race, runners are assigned to a Start Corral, lettered AA – F. Corral assignments are normally made with faster paces starting in the higher lettered Start Corrals (AA, A, B, and so on). In most cases, this allows for a minimal number of runners passing other runners, which makes for a safer on course running experience.
At the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon, we use a wave-based start plan with each Wave Start separated by 25-40 minutes. This helps us manage runner density on the roads and avoid overcrowding at any point along the 13.1-mile course, particularly the Finish Area. Though your pace is used to make your Start Wave assignment, faster paces do not always start in the earlier waves. Each Start Wave includes a full lineup of Start Corrals (AA – F) which follow the same Start Corral assignment guidelines detailed above.
NOTE – We’re working on a dynamic pace tracker that will automatically update your pace per mile using your NYCRUNS results history. We hope to have this function enabled by the end of the year.
