Does NYCRUNS Provide Free Races to Runners Who Can’t Afford the Entry Fee?

Yes. The NYCRUNS For All initiative provides complimentary race entries to economically challenged residents of the five boroughs. Here’s how it works:

NYCRUNS For All is open to all residents of NYC’s five boroughs (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island) who are at least 18 years of age at the time of the race and can demonstrate a financial need based on their annual household income falling below the moderate-income level standard as defined by the City of New York here.  Up to fifty (50) entries to NYCRUNS races in Prospect Park, Central Park, and Flushing Meadows Park. will be set aside for this program. Runners can receive up to two free entries per calendar year.

Entry Request Process:

  • Runners must create a free NYCRUNS account.
  • Requests can be made anytime but will close 30 days prior to a 5K/10K race or 90 days prior to a half marathon/marathon.
  • Requests will be processed on a first-come basis.
  • Requests can be made for any number of races, listed in order of priority, though only two free races can be run in a calendar year.
  • Requests must be made via email to cs@nycruns.comand include name and email as it appears on the requester’s NYCRUNS account.
  • Requesters who have a child account can also request free entries for those dependents.

Runners will receive a race entry code when their request is accepted and must register within seven (7) days of receiving the code. If they can no longer run a race they are accepted to, they must email cs@nycruns.com to request a new race within those seven (7) days
