New Jersey Half Marathon & 5K at Newport

EVENT BEGINS - 6:30 AM | 5K & Half - 8:30 AM

Jersey City, NJ
HM
5K

THE RACE

Starting and finishing in the Newport neighborhood of Jersey City, the half marathon course will take you on a tour of historic Jersey City and will feature world-class views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the stunning Manhattan skyline. You'll see a little less on the 5K course, but what you see will have you coming back for more.

These fast, flat courses are ideal for beating your PR. Post-race, we can't think of a better place to celebrate your accomplishment than Newport Green, where we'll have plenty of refreshments, music and more.

This race was formerly known as the Newport Liberty Half Marathon and 5K.

THE COURSE

The race starts and finishes outside of Newport Green Park and goes along the Hudson River in Jersey City. Fast, flat, and, of course: USATF-certified.

Mile marker clocks will be present at every mile and there will be split points at the 5K, 10K and 10 mile marks for half marathoners.

Pacers provided by the Marlboro Running Club for the following half marathon goal times: 1:25, 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, and 3:00. The Marlboro Running Club is based out of Marlboro township in Central New Jersey. There are currently over 280 members. The Marlboro Running club is for runners on all levels to chat, learn, share, motivate and RUN. We even have supervised group runs for kid.

All NYCRUNS courses are USATF certified.

AMENITIES

Bag Check - If you plan on checking a bag, you must use the single clear bag provided by NYCRUNS. You may not put another full bag/backpack/briefcase inside the clear bag. All items must fit inside the clear bag. NYCRUNS reserves the right to search your bag at any time.

Toilets - Portable restrooms will be available for use throughout the event.

Refreshments - Water and electrolyte beverages will be available on the course and at the finish. Bagels, spreads and fresh fruit will make up the usual great NYCRUNS post-race grub so you can begin refueling soon after you cross the finish line.

Swag - The giveaway for this race will be a medal and a tech shirt. Shirts may be picked up on race day only. In order to cut down on waste, we avoid ordering more than we need; thus, sizes are not guaranteed. If you have your heart set on a size, we recommend picking up your shirt before the race starts.

Photos - Photography will be available for purchase within a week of the race. You will receive an email from MarathonFoto several days after the race with information about how to claim your photos.

BIB DISTRIBUTION

You may pickup your bib in the festival area on race day. NYCRUNS does not host a pre-race bib pickup for this event.

If you register thirty days or more before the event using a domestic address, you can also have your bib mailed to you. This service is free if you are an NYCRUNS Member, and you can become one at checkout. You can also add this service to your registration for $20. Please make sure the shipping address provided at the time of registration will be valid in the month preceding the race.

If you register less than 30 days before race day, or you have an international address, you must pick up your bib on race day no more than an hour before your start time.

If you need to switch distances, please do so on your NYCRUNS dashboard. You may only switch distances if the distance you are looking to switch to is not sold out. You may need to contact customer service if there is a difference in price. You also must pick up the appropriate distance bib on race day from the Bib Pick-Up tent. Runners who participate with a bib designated for a different distance (e.g., you run the 5K with a Half Marathon bib or vice versa) will not be scored, eligible for awards or appear in race results.

PATH: Take the PATH Train to Hoboken Station, NOT the Newport station for the quickest access to the start. Please note that the Path does not go to either station from the World Trade Center on Saturdays. If you are coming from Manhattan, we recommend you board you use the Journal Square Line with stops between 33rd Street and Christopher Street on the west side.

Please check the NJ Transit Site for up-to-date service information.

When you exit the Path station at Hoboken, you will be directed by team members to Newport Green Park. If you do not see a team member, please use Newport Green Park as waypoint with your favorite mapping app.

Driving From Manhattan: Take the Holland Tunnel. Upon exiting in Jersey City, make the first right at the Speedway service station. Make a right onto 18th Street which becomes Washington Boulevard. Proceed south. Use the Newport North Garage as your waypoint.

From New Jersey: Take the New Jersey Turnpike Extension (from NJ Turnpike North or South or Rt. 78 East) to Exit 14C. After coming down the ramp, make right at traffic light onto Jersey Avenue. Bear left onto 11th Street Viaduct which becomes Newport Parkway. Pass Newport Centre Mall on right. Make right onto Washington Boulevard. Use the Newport North Garage as your waypoint.

Parking: The following garages are recommended:

  • Newport North Garage (Closer To Start):
    • Enter on 60 Mall Drive East or 561 Washington Blvd
    • Costs $23 max daily.
  • Newport South Garage:
    • Enter on 2 Mall Drive East or 479 Rear Washington Blvd
    • Costs $27 max daily.

We recommend you enter the garage no later than 7:00 AM to avoid being impacted by street closures.

Please check MTA Trip Planner for up-to-date and detailed mass transit directions and Google Maps for driving directions. Parking is limited at all of our events, we strongly encourage you to use mass transit.
