Here’s the least you need to know for the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Ice Cream Social Half & 5K Presented By Samsung Health this Saturday, August 23rd in Prospect Park.
Getting To The Race
We suggest using mass transit to get to the race. Please check MTA Trip Planner for up-to-date information. The closest subway stations to the Festival Area and the Start are Prospect Park (B/Q) and 15th St.-Prospect Park (F/G). The closest bus stops are Prospect Park Southwest/11th Ave (B68) and Ocean Ave./Lincoln Road (B16). Citi Bike stations are located at Prospect Park Southwest/16th St. and Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave.
Parking is extremely limited around the park, but if you’re getting a ride to the race, use 101 Prospect Park Southwest as the destination address to be dropped off at. Enter the park at 16th St. The Festival Area and Start Corrals are just a short walk away.
The Festival Area Opens at 5:30 AM
The Festival Area is located in the Nethermead on Center Drive and is the hub of race activity. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and race shirt, check a bag, use the bathrooms, and get your ice cream after the race. The Start Corrals are a short walk away on Well House Drive. Bike parking in the Festival Area and locking bikes to NYCRUNS signage are strictly prohibited.
Samsung Rest Club
Our friends at Samsung Health invite you to visit them at the Samsung Rest Club in the Festival Area – a run club that’s all about rest – where you can learn how tracking sleep data, including your Energy Score, can unlock your perfect run.
Pick Up Your Race Bib First
If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area. Bib Pick Up will close at 7:00 AM, so please arrive no later than 6:30 AM to give yourself enough time.
When picking up your bib, have your personal QR code ready. It’s located at the top of the email you received this week and it’s also on your NYCRUNS Dashboard for this race. The QR code can be added to your Apple Wallet. A screen shot is fine too. If you’re also picking up a bib for another runner, make sure you have an image of their QR code too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.
Get Your Swag
Pick up your official race shirt in the Festival Area after picking up your bib. Just show your QR code again (it has your requested size on it). You can pick up your shirt after the race too. To cut down on waste we try not to over order, so shirt sizes are not guaranteed.
Check A Bag
If you’ve got gear to check, head over to the Bag Check Area and drop your things off. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one. Sorry, but we can’t check non-clear bags such as backpacks, messenger bags, totes, purses, fanny packs, etc., nor can you put those bags in the clear bag.
Be In Your Corral By 7:15 AM
All runners (Half Marathon and 5K) will line up in the Start Corrals together. Please be ready in your assigned Corral no later than 15 minutes prior to the start of the race at 7:30 AM. Corrals will be located on Well House Drive, just off West Drive. Corrals are lined up by letter (AA – F). Your corral assignment will be noted on your bib and is determined by the pace you selected in the Profile section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard.
Review Your Course
Check out the USATF-certified 5K course and Half Marathon course. Both races start on West Drive, just off Well House Drive. If you’re in the 5K, you’ll run just under one full loop of the park before making a left turn up Center Drive to the Finish. Add three more full loops of the park and that’s the Half Marathon course.
Be smart At The Finish
Grab a can of smartwater at the Finish to rehydrate after your race (we’ll have electrolyte fluids there too).
Ice Cream & Medals!
After your WIN YOUR RACE (Half Marathon or 5K) you’ll earn a sweet looking Finisher Medal and grab a cool ice cream (or non-dairy ice pop) treat in the Festival Area!
Beat The Heat
Please run smart. Stay hydrated leading up to the race and while running. If you’re running with a hydration pack or fuel belt, make sure you fill up before the race. Listen to your body and slow down or stop if your body’s not feeling right.
Don’t Do Prospect Park Dirty!
Please throw all cups, bottles, cans, wrappers, and any other garbage in the trash cans located throughout the course and Festival Area. Confetti cannons, which are extremely difficult to clean up, are expressly forbidden.
