Here’s the least you need to know for the sold out NYCRUNS Haunted Island 5K & 10K on Governors Island this Saturday, October 25th (10K) and Sunday, October 26th (5K):

Download The NYCRUNS Events App

The free NYCRUNS Events App provides real-time tracking of every runner at every race and has lots of other useful info too. You and your friends and family can easily download the app now at the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Dress For Success

Catch the Haunted Island spirit while running in costume and you might win some cool prizes. Check out the details here.

Take The Governors Island Ferry To The Race

Ferries run every half hour. Take either the 7:00 AM or 7:30 AM ferry to ensure a timely arrival. Anything after that is pushing it. Please line up for the ferry 15-30 minutes prior to departure time and follow the staff’s instructions regarding boarding and queuing in line. The ferry is free for you and your friends and family.

The Governors Island Ferry is located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street. Mass transit is the best way to get there. On the subway, take either the 4/5 to Bowling Green, the R to Whitehall Street, the J to Broad Street, or the 1 to South Ferry. You can also take the M15 bus to South Street/Whitehall Street. Check mta.info for up-to-date mass transit details. There’s a Citi Bike station at South Street/Whitehall Street, as well.

Everything’s Centrally Located

Follow everyone off the ferry for the short walk to the Festival Area. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and shirt, check a bag, use the bathroom, hang out before the race, and refuel after your run. The Start and Finish are just steps away as well.

Pick Up Your Race Bib First

If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area after you arrive on the island. Have your unique QR code ready. It’s located at the top of this email (it’s also on your NYCRUNS Dashboard for this race). The QR code can be added to your Apple Wallet. A screen shot is fine too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.

Get Your Swag

Pick up your official race shirt in the Festival Area after picking up your bib. Just show your QR code again (it has your requested size on it). You can pick up your shirt after the race too. To cut down on waste we try not to over order, so shirt sizes are not guaranteed.

Check A Bag

If you have gear to check, head over to the Bag Check Area and drop your things off. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one. Sorry, but we can’t check non-clear bags such as backpacks, messenger bags, totes, purses, fanny packs, etc., nor can you put those bags in the clear bag.

Samsung Rest Club

Visit our friends from Samsung Health at the Samsung Rest Club in the Festival Area before and after the race. It’s a run club that’s all about rest, where you can learn how tracking sleep data –  including your Energy Score – can unlock your perfect run.

Please Be In Your Corral By 8:45 AM

The race starts at 9:00 AM. Please be in your designated start corral at least 15 minutes prior to the race. Corrals line up by letter, AA-F. Your Start Corral letter assignment will be noted on your bib and is determined by the pace designated in your NYCRUNS Dashboard profile.

Review Your Course

Check out the 5K course, which makes one loop around the island, and the 10K course, which makes two loops around the island. All NYCRUNS races are USATF-certified.

Post-Race Refueling

We’ll have cups of water and Gatorade, a tasty apple, and Brooklyn’s best bagel (with a schmear, of course) to help you refuel after your run.  Oh, and we’ll have some Halloween candy treats waiting for you too!

Don’t Do Governors Island Dirty

Please help keep Governors Island clean and sustainable. NYCRUNS partners with the island’s composter Earth Matter NY to turn all cups and food from the race into compost. So, toss your trash, recycle your bottles, and place all race cups and food into the compost bins.

Share Your Run On Social

Share your race day journey on social and tag @nycruns on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook #NYCRUNS #HauntedIsland #WinYourRace

Check Out Your Results

You’ll receive an email after the race once the preliminary results are posted on our website. If you’re an overall or group award winner, you’ll receive an email 10-14 days after the race once the results are official.

Post Race Pumpkins

Continue your Halloween hang after the race at Pumpkin Point on Nolan Park Lawn (a short walk from the Festival Area) and cool down while looking for the Halloween pumpkin of your dreams (while supplies last).

Celebrate Your Finish

Taco Vista is the place to celebrate after every Governors Island race. Now in a new location at 125 Carder Road (just a short walk past the Manhattan ferry slip), their tasty menu, refreshing drinks, and epic Manhattan views come with more space and more shade, perfect for a post-race hang.

Recharge After Your Race
