Brooklyn, New York (January 7, 2025) – New York City is welcoming an old friend with a new name to the streets of Brooklyn. The race formerly known as the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon is now the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon, it was announced today by Steve Lastoe, Founder & CEO of NYCRUNS, the event’s owner and operator.
“The NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon is more than a race, it’s the ultimate Brooklyn experience,” said Lastoe. “The course is a one-of-a-kind journey through the iconic streets of NYC’s greatest borough. From hip and historic neighborhoods to world-class riverfront views, to the energy created by the city’s most bustling borough, it’s pure Brooklyn.”
The NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon is America’s fastest growing race with over 25,000 runners expected to cross the Prospect Park finish line on Sunday, April 27. One of the most popular races in the United States features runners from around the block, across the nation, and throughout the world.
The iconic race route starts in hip North Brooklyn and winds around the East River waterfront under the historic Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Bridges. The course then heads through downtown Brooklyn, up the historic concourses of Fulton Street and Flatbush Avenue before passing through Grand Army Plaza and into Prospect Park, where runners cross the Finish Line into a celebratory post-race party zone.
The NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon started in 2011 as the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Marathon with a few hundred runners in Prospect Park. In 2018, the half marathon was added with a large part of the course moving on to the streets of Brooklyn. After a two-year pandemic forced hiatus, the event returned in 2022 with a new, USATF-certified Brooklyn street course that transformed the event into a 13.1-mile authentic Brooklyn experience. In 2023, the event became a standalone half marathon with 11,735 finishers, and then in 2024 the race exploded into a sold-out event with a record 21,726 finishers.
