How Long Do I Have to Cross the Finish Line?

For safety purposes, runners are required to maintain a minimum pace (see below). As long as you meet these requirements, you will be supported with hydration stations, medical coverage, and other course amenities administered by event staff.

If you cannot maintain the minimum pace at a NYCRUNS event, you may be directed off the course to clear the streets for re-opening. Additionally, you may reach the Finish line after the chip timing system is shut down and therefore you would not have an official finish time or be scored in our results.

Below are the maximum allowable finish times and paces for various race distances (unless otherwise noted on a particular race page):

  • 5K – 1:02:00 maximum finish time (20:00/mile pace)
  • 5 Miles – 1:40:00 maximum finish time (20:00/mile pace)
  • 10K – 2:05:00 maximum finish time (20:00/mile pace)
  • 10 Miles – 2:30:00 maximum finish time (15:00/mile pace)
  • Half-Marathon – 3:30:00 maximum finish time (16:00/mile pace)
  • Marathon – 6:35:00 maximum finish time (15:00/mile pace)
