Here’s the least you need to know for the first-ever NYCRUNS Big Apple Marathon, this Saturday, September 26, on Governors Island:

Your Personal QR Code

Located in the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard, your personal QR code is what you’ll use on race day to pick up your bib and participant shirt. Add it to your Apple Wallet or take a screenshot so it’s accessible on race morning.

Getting to the Race

Take the Governors Island Ferry located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Manhattan. With the race starting at 8:00 AM, you’ll need to be on the 7:00 AM ferry. The line up for boarding starts at 6:45 AM. There’s no charge for you or any of your supporters. The subway is your best option to get to the ferry. Use MTA Trip Planner for any service updates. Parking is limited in the area.

The Festival Area is Centrally Located

When you arrive on the island, follow the signs and event staff directions to the Festival Area, which is the hub of race activity. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and participant shirt, check a bag, use the bathrooms, and get any questions answered.

First Things First, Get Your Bib

If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area using your QR code. If you’re also picking up a bib for another runner, you’ll need a screenshot of their QR code too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.

Get Your Shirt

Pick up your official participant shirt before or after the race in the Festival Area. Just show your personal QR code.

Checking a Bag?

If you need to drop gear off until after the race, head over to the Bag Check Area. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one.

Be in Your Start Corral by 7:45 AM

The Start Corrals are a short walk from the Festival Area and will be lined up by letter (AA – C). Your corral assignment will be noted on your bib and was determined by the pace you selected in the Profile section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard.

The Course
Check out the 26.2-mile course which features nine loops of the island (plus an extra mile or so). Each loop is slightly under three miles. We’ll have a timing display set up at the loop completion point where you’ll see your name, the number of loops you’ve run, and your time. All NYCRUNS courses are USATF-certified, which makes this a Boston Marathon qualifier. Fluid stations with water and Gatorade will be spread out along the island loop. Bathrooms will be located just beyond the Fluid Stations.

Count Your Loops
To help you keep track of your loops, we’ve got an old school method available if you so desire: Rubberbands! Just pick up nine (9) rubberbands at the pin table next to the Bib Pick Up Tent. Put them all on one wrist and after every loop, switch one to your other wrist. When all the rubberbands are on your other wrist, that’s when you’re ready to finish. About a mile after completing your ninth loop, look for directional signage at the course split to make your final sprint to the Finish Line!

Post Race Refueling

We’ll be there after you finish with water, Gatorade, an apple, and Brooklyn’s best bagel (with a schmear, of course).

Photos

Following the race, you’ll receive an email with a link to your race photo gallery. If you did not pre-purchase a discounted photo package at checkout, you can still do so up to the day before the race by going to the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard and modifying your registration. For those who do not purchase a photo package, every NYCRUNS event includes a free photo which you can download after the race.

Track Your Run & Check Your Results

Real-time runner tracking and an interactive course map is available with the NYCRUNS Events App. Download the app now at the Apple App Store and Google Play. You’ll receive an email after the race once the preliminary results are posted on NYCRUNS.com.

Celebrate Your Finish

Stop by Taco Vista after the race and get $5 off buckets of beer and pitchers of margaritas. Enjoy tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and other delicious treats including great vegan options. Take in the epic views for the perfect post-race hang. Located at 125 Carder Road (just a short walk past the Manhattan ferry slip).
