Here’s the least you need to know for the NYCRUNS Manhattan Ice Cream Social 10K on Governors Island this Saturday, August 8:

Your Personal QR Code

Located in the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard, your personal QR code is what you’ll use on race day to pick up your bib and participant shirt. Add it to your Apple Wallet or take a screenshot so it’s accessible on race morning. Cell service on Governors Island can be weak.

Getting to the Race

Take the Governors Island Ferry located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Manhattan. Please take either the 7:00 AM or 7:30 AM ferry and line up for boarding at least 15 minutes prior to the ferry departure time.

  • Mass transit is your best option to get to the ferry. Check MTA Trip Planner for up-to-date and detailed mass transit directions. There’s a Citi Bike station at South Street/Whitehall Street. Parking is limited in the area.

The Festival Area is Centrally Located

Follow the signs and event staff directions (and everyone else coming off the ferry) to the Festival Area, which is the hub of race activity. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and participant shirt, check a bag, use the bathrooms, and get any questions answered.

First Things First, Get Your Bib

If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area using your QR code. If you’re also picking up a bib for another runner, you’ll need a screenshot of their QR code too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.

Get Your Shirt

Pick up your official participant shirt before or after the race in the Festival Area. Just show your personal QR code.

Checking a Bag?

If you need to drop gear off until after the race, head over to the Bag Check Area. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one.

Be in Your Start Corral by 8:45 PM

The Start Corrals are a short walk from the Festival Area and will be lined up by letter (AA – F). Your corral assignment will be noted on your bib and was determined by the pace you selected in the Profile section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard.

The Course

Check out the USATF-certified 10K course which makes two loops of the island. You’ll pass fluid stations four times – with water and Gatorade – just after the start, between Miles 1 and 2, Miles 3 and 4, and Miles 4 and 5. Bathrooms will be located just beyond the Fluid Stations.

Ice Cream Celebration

We’ll be there after the race with refueling options including water, Gatorade, apples, pretzels, and your choice of a tasty vanilla or chocolate Häagen-Dazs ice cream cup or a non-dairy Marinos Rainbow Italian Ice.

Photos

Following the race, you’ll receive an email with a link to your race photo gallery. If you did not pre-purchase a discounted photo package at checkout, you can still do so up to the day before the race by going to the Upcoming Races section of your NYCRUNS Dashboard and modifying your registration. For those who do not purchase a photo package, every NYCRUNS event includes a free photo which you can download after the race.

Track Your Run & Check Your Results

Real-time runner tracking and an interactive course map is available with the NYCRUNS Events App. Download the app now at the Apple App Store and Google Play. You’ll receive an email after the race once the preliminary results are posted on NYCRUNS.com.

Coconut Island

ZICO will be onsite in the Festival Area to refresh and replenish you with nature’s ultimate hydration drink crafted with just one thirst-quenching ingredient: 100% coconut water.

Celebrate Your Finish

Taco Vista is the place to celebrate after every Governors Island race. Located at 125 Carder Road (just a short walk past the Manhattan ferry slip), their tasty menu, refreshing drinks, and epic Manhattan views come with more space and more shade, perfect for a celebratory post-race hang.
