Check Out All The Key Information for the NYCRUNS Firecracker 10K this Saturday, July 5, on Governors Island

Take The Governors Island Ferry Departing At 7:00 AM (6:45 AM arrival)

Please line up for the ferry at least 15 minutes prior to departure time. Ferries run every half hour. If you’re not on the 7:00 AM ferry, make sure you’re on the 7:30 AM ferry. Anything after that is pushing it. Please follow the staff’s instructions regarding boarding and queuing in line. The ferry is free for you and your friends and family.

The Governors Island Ferry is located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street. Mass transit is the best way to get there. On the subway, take either the 4/5 to Bowling Green, the R to Whitehall Street, the J to Broad Street, or the 1 to South Ferry. You can also take the M15 bus to South Street/Whitehall Street. Check mta.info for up-to-date mass transit details. There’s a Citi Bike station at South Street/Whitehall Street, as well.

Everything’s Centrally Located

Follow everyone off the ferry for the short walk to the Festival Area. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and shirt, check a bag, use the bathroom, hang out before the race, and refuel after the race. The Start and Finish are just steps away as well.

Pick Up Your Race Bib First

If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area after you arrive on the island. Have your unique QR code ready. It’s located on the email sent to every runner on Monday, June 30, and is also accessible via the NYCRUNS Dashboard for this race. The QR code can be added to your Apple Wallet. A screen shot is fine too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.

Get Your Swag

Pick up your official race shirt (it’s a singlet) in the Festival Area after getting your bib. Just show your QR code again (it has your requested size on it). You can pick up your shirt after the race too. To cut down on waste we try not to over order, so shirt sizes are not guaranteed.

Check A Bag

If you’ve got gear to check, head over to the Bag Check Area and drop your things off. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one. Sorry, but we can’t check non-clear bags such as backpacks, messenger bags, totes, purses, fanny packs, etc.

Please Be In Your Corral By 8:45 AM

The race starts at 9:00 AM. Please be in your designated start corral at least 15 minutes prior to the race. Corrals line up by letter, AA-F. Your Start Corral letter assignment will be noted on your bib and is determined by the pace designated in your NYCRUNS Dashboard profile.

Review The Course

Check out the USATF-certified 10K course which makes two loops of the island and features one-of-a-kind views of New York Harbor and Lower Manhattan. We’ll have three fluid stations along the loop, with cups of water and electrolyte fluids at two and water at one. Water, electrolyte fluids, and non-dairy ice pops will be available at the finish. Medical support will be available along the course and at the Finish.

Beat The Heat

It’s July. It’s NYC. It’s kinda hot. So please run smart. Stay hydrated leading up to the race and while running – you’ll pass six total fluid stations during the race. Hydration packs and fuel belts are allowed, though we’re unable to provide refueling options so make sure you fill up before the race. There’s some shade along the course, but you’ll run in the sun (if it’s out) so a hat or something covering your head is a good idea, if possible. Most importantly, listen to your body and slow down or stop if your body’s not feeling right.

Don’t Do Governors Island Dirty

Please help keep the Island clean and sustainable. NYCRUNS partners with the Island’s composter Earth Matter NY  to turn all cups and food from the race into compost. Just follow the signs. Recycle your bottles and place all race cups and food into the compost bin.

Check Your Results

You’ll receive an email after the race with your results. The full race results will be posted on our Results Page after the race as well. If you’re an overall or group award winner, you’ll receive an email 10-14 days after the race.
