The New York Flyers was founded in 1989, with the goal of establishing a running club open to individuals of all athletic abilities and experience levels. The Flyers is one of the largest clubs in New York City, but we take pride in our "small club feel." Members train together, cheer one another on at races,... and party too! We have competitive age-group runners as well as those that want to run to stay healthy. We have triathletes, duathletes and good all-around athletes. Our members travel for adventure to competitions all over the US and beyond. Explore our website to find out more about us.
Or better yet, come out to one of our six weekly group runs in Central Park and get acquainted. You can find the meeting times and places on our website. For focused training, we have coached marathon training programs and speed-work classes that meet throughout the year. Also, we organize long training runs leading up to the NYC Marathon, including our popular Three Bridges and Palisades runs. The Flyers serve as pace leaders for New York Road Runner’s long marathon training runs in Central Park.
As enthusiastic as we are about running, we are equally enthused about what we do together off the course. Our active social calendar includes Casual Fridays, a December holiday party and our annual awards gala. Many group runs end with members and friends gathering for drinks and something to eat. We also try to work some charitable and volunteer events into the calendar. Past events have included the Toys for Tots run, Central Park clean-ups, raising funds for the Food Bank for New York City, staffing water stops for the NYC Marathon and Half-Marathon, and sponsoring the Laurie Harris Hope & Dreams 5K for pancreatic cancer research.
