Here’s the least you need to know for the NYCRUNS Go Nuts For Donuts 5K & 10K this Saturday, November 15th (the 10K) and Sunday, November 16th (the 5K) on Governors Island:
Download The NYCRUNS Events App
The free NYCRUNS Events App provides real-time tracking of runners at this and every NYCRUNS race, along with an interactive map and other useful info. You, your friends, and family can download the app now at the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Take The Governors Island Ferry To The Race
Governors Island has a new hybrid-electric ferry which runs every half hour. Catch the 7:30 AM or 8:00 AM ferry to make sure you’re all set for the race start. Anything after that is pushing it. You’ll need to arrive early for the ferry. The line starts building 15-30 minutes prior to departure time. The ferry is free for you and your friends and family.
The Governors Island Ferry is located at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street. Mass transit is the best way to get there. It’s important to check mta.info for the latest subway line updates due to track work and maintenance. When all trains are running on schedule at all stops, you can take the 4/5 to Bowling Green, the R to Whitehall Street, the J to Broad Street, or the 1 to South Ferry. You can also take the M15 bus to South Street/Whitehall Street. There’s a Citi Bike station at South Street/Whitehall Street, as well.
Everything’s Centrally Located
Follow everyone off the ferry for the short walk to the Festival Area. This is where you’ll pick up your bib and shirt, check a bag, use the bathroom, hang out before the race, and refuel after your run (which includes a tasty donut). The Start and Finish are just steps away as well.
Pick Up Your Race Bib First
If you haven’t received your bib in the mail, you’ll pick it up at the Bib Pick-Up Tent in the Festival Area after you arrive on the island. Have your unique QR code ready. It’s located at the top of this email (it’s also on your NYCRUNS Dashboard for this race). The QR code can be added to your Apple Wallet. A screen shot is fine too. For safety and security reasons and per NYCRUNS policy, only you can run with the bib that’s assigned to you.
Get Your Swag
Pick up your official race shirt in the Festival Area after picking up your bib. Just show your QR code again (it has your requested size on it). You can pick up your shirt after the race too. To cut down on waste we try not to over order, so shirt sizes are not guaranteed.
Check A Bag
If you’ve got gear to check, head over to the Bag Check Area and drop your things off. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one.
Please Be In Your Corral By 9:15 AM
The race starts at 9:30 AM. Please be in your designated start corral at least 15 minutes prior to the race. Corrals line up by letter, AA-F. Your Start Corral letter assignment will be noted on your bib and is determined by the pace designated in your NYCRUNS Dashboard profile.
Review The Courses
Check out the 5K course map and the 10K course map. All NYCRUNS courses are USATF-certified.
Post-Race Donuts!
We’ll have a tasty array of donuts ready to help you refuel after the race, along with an apple, water, and Gatorade.
Don’t Do Governors Island Dirty
Please help keep Governors Island clean and sustainable. NYCRUNS partners with the island’s composter Earth Matter NY to turn all cups and food from the race into compost. So, toss your trash, recycle your bottles, and place all race cups and food into the compost bins.
