Here’s the Least You Need to Know for the New Jersey Half Marathon & 5K at Newport on Saturday, September 28, in Jersey City:
Athlete Arrival Begins At 6:00 AM
The best way to get to the race is on the PATH TRAIN to Newport Station, which is the closest stop to Bib & Shirt Pick-Up, Bag Check, the Start Corrals, and the Finish Area. When you exit the PATH station you will be directed by team members where to go.
If you’re DRIVING to the race, visit the race page on our website for updates on street closures and to find nearby parking lots. Use the Newport North Garage at 561 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City, as the address for directions. If you’re coming from Manhattan, don’t take the Holland Tunnel. It’ll be closed due to overnight construction. We recommend you park no later than 6:30 AM to avoid being impacted by street closures.
If you’re GETTING A RIDE to the race, have the driver drop you off at the Staples Parking Lot at 613 Washington Boulevard, Jersey City, no later than 6:30 AM.
Both Races Start At 8:00 AM
The 5K and the half marathon both start at 8:00 AM. Runners should aim to be in their assigned Start Corral by 7:45 AM at the latest. The start line will close after the final corral is released. Please be on time. Late starts after the final corral is released will not be allowed.
Check Out The Maps
Take a good look at the 5K course map and half marathon course map to familiarize yourself with your course and where the hydration stations, medical tents, and restrooms are located.
Review the Start/Finish Area Map to see how to access the Start Corrals, Bib & Shirt Pick-Up, Bag Check, the Post-Finish Festival Area Amenities, and the Newport and Hoboken PATH Stations.
Pick Up Your Race Bib & Shirt
If you didn’t receive your bib in the mail, you have two options to pick up your bib (and shirt) on site. Bib and shirt pick up will take place at Elephant Park in Newport, a short walk from the Start Corrals and the Newport PATH Station.
If necessary, you can pick up your shirt immediately after the race, though that’s not recommended. To cut down on waste we try not to over-order shirts, so sizes are not guaranteed. If you have your heart set on a size, we recommend picking up your shirt on Friday or prior to the race on Saturday.
We’ll Use A Pace-Based Corral System With Staggered Starts
To create a safer and more enjoyable running environment, we’ll use a pace-based corral system with a staggered start process. Your Start Corral assignment is based on the pace you entered at the time of registration. Start Corrals will line up from AA through F and will be noted on your bib. Both the 5K and Half Marathon will start in the corrals together.
Each Corral will have its own separate start. Please follow event staff instructions and wait for the announcer prompt and the start horn for your corral. Don’t worry about your time. Your official chip timing will begin when you cross the start line.
You Can Run The Half Marathon With A Pace Group
The Marlboro Running Club will be providing pacers for the following half marathon goal times: 1:25, 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, and 3:00.

Check Your Gear
If you have gear to check, go to the Bag Check Area at Lighthouse Point between 6:00 AM and 7:30 AM. It’s a short walk from the Newport PATH Station, Start Corrals, and Finish Area. For security reasons, all items must be in a clear bag. NYCRUNS can provide an 18” x 24” clear bag if you don’t have one. Sorry, but we are not able to check non-clear bags such as backpacks, messenger bags, totes, purses, etc.
