THE EVENT

The Walk the Talk New York: Health for All Challenge returns on Sunday, September 17th, 2023 to Central Park to provide a healthy kickstart to the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) high-level week.

Hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the New York City Mayor’s Office, and supported by a wide range of partners including the NYC Health Commission and the UHC  Partnership, the second edition of the free Walk the Talk New York will also celebrate WHO’s 75th?anniversary this year, and provide an opportunity to promote solidarity and get people moving for physical and mental health.

Other partners include the International Olympic Committee, Global Citizen, The Carter Center and Hip Hop Health, a NY-based health promotion body associated with the American Public Health Association.

Walk the Talk New York brings together UN delegates, Member States, athletes and the local New York community in celebration of healthy lifestyles and raise awareness on the pursuit of health for all.

Famous entertainers and athletes will be joining the event to help bring fun and healthy energy to the day. Announcements will be made soon.

Walk the Talk New York  will be open to all people to run, walk and use their adaptive devices over an approximately 4 mile  route in Central Park route. Activities will commence from 7 a.m. with the official opening scheduled for 8.30 a.m.

The first-ever edition of the Walk the Talk New York event  took place on Sunday, 22 September 2019,  and brought together around 4000 people from all over the world for a celebration of health, on the eve of the United Nations General Assembly.

THE COURSE

Starting and finishing on the 102nd Street Transverse in Central Park, the course takes you on a 4-mile loop of the crown jewel of the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.

THE AMENITIES

Bag check and toilets will be provided. Water will be available on the course, and bagels, spreads, fresh fruit and more will be available at the finish line. Registered participants will receive a t-shirt.

EVENT DAY SCHEDULE

Race-day packet pickup will be available in the festival about ¼-mile from the starting line beginning at

7:00 AM – 8:45 AM  - bib and shirt pick-up (you must pick up these items before participating)

8:30 AM - opening ceremony

9:00 AM – walk/run begins

10:45 AM – closing ceremony

COST

This is a free event open to people of all abilities.

RESULTS, FINISH LINE PHOTOS & VIDEO

Results will be emailed and posted on our results page after the race. Finish line photos and video will be available on the results page several days after the event.

There are no awards for this race.

DIRECTIONS

From the west side, take the B or the C train to 103rd Street and Central Park West or the 1 train to 103rd Street and Broadway and walk eastward into the park.

From the east side, take the 6 train to 103rd Street and Lexington Avenue and walk westward into the park at Fifth Avenue and 102nd Street.

NYCRUNS POLICIES

Dogs are not allowed and participants walking or running with a stroller must start at the rear of the corrals. Please familiarize yourself with our complete policies and rules of competition.

As per the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, any adult interacting with amateur athletes, defined as a child or minor under the age of 18 that participates in youth running programs or any events hosted or operated by NYCRUNS, has a duty to report a reasonable suspicion of sexual misconduct such as child sex abuse, non-consensual sexual conduct, sexual harassment or intimate relationships involving an imbalance of power within a 24- hour period to local law enforcement by calling the New York State Central Register at 800-635-1522. Participants found to be listed on a sex offender registry, convicted of a sex crime, or caught having, creating, or distributing child pornography will be immediately barred from all NYCRUNS events.
