Why Henry’s Hope?  In the final days of his excruciating battle with esophageal cancer, 52-year-old  Henry Rodriguez had one hope – that his story would prevent others from developing this disease by raising awareness about the link between heartburn and cancer.  Make Henry’s Hope a reality by reaching out to your friends and family to share a life-saving message and raise support for the fight against esophageal cancer:  Become a Henry’s Hope Teamraiser.

Courses:  Run along the super flat and scenic running path that hugs the southern edge of Brooklyn. You’ll run under the Verrazano Bridge and see the Manhattan skyline from across the harbor. It’s New York running from a whole new perspective.

Why Henry’s Hope? Henry Rodriguez was a talented artist and loving husband when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer at the age of 52.  This vibrant New Yorker exercised regularly, ate a healthy diet and never smoked.  But for the last five years of his life, Henry chewed antacids every morning to alleviate his persistent heartburn.

Like so many, Henry believed heartburn was simply an annoyance.  But he fond out too late that heartburn can cause cancer – a particularly deadly cancer that few survive.  It was Henry’s Hope that his story would save others from the unimaginable pain he endured for the eight months he lived after his diagnosis – and the pain his wife Rubini will live with for the rest of her life.

Please join our life-saving team by becoming a Henry’s Hope Teamraiser at www.ecan.org/henrys-hope.  You can help make Henry’s Hope a reality by reaching out to your friends and family to support your participation in the Henry’s Hope Verrazano Festival of Races by giving a tax-deductible contribution to ECAN on your behalf.

Your participation will also share our life-saving message that heartburn can cause cancer with the people you know and love.  So even if they don’t support you financially, they will be informed.  You never know whose life you may save.
