The Walk the Talk event returns to New York City’s Central Park on Sunday, September 17th, the day before the United Nations General Assembly. The World Health Organization (WHO) is joining with its United Nations family, the City of New York, and partners to celebrate the importance of healthy lifestyles.

New York City’s second edition of the Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge, and the first since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, gives New Yorkers an opportunity to gather safely and to promote solidarity and a healthy lifestyle.

Though there is no zero risk when it comes to any kind of gathering – especially events that bring together groups of people from all over the world – we can take steps to limit our risk.

Here are some of the safety precautions that we will take for this event:

  • The event will be held outdoors.
  • Portable toilets and handwashing facilities with water and soap and/or hand sanitizer dispensers will be made available.
  • Closed bins will be made available for the disposal of water bottles and other items.
  • A medical tent staffed by physicians will be available to treat minor health issues.
  • Emergency medical services will be available to support any emergencies and/or to take anyone needing further assistance to a nearby hospital.

Participants are advised to observe the following health protocols:

  • Stay home if you don’t feel well.
  • Clean hands frequently with either soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Apply respiratory hygiene: if coughing or sneezing, turn away from others, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or use your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands.
  • If you have not gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, do so.
  • Get a booster when it is recommended for you.
